Key Stage 2 Curriculum Overview

At Moor End, we believe that our curriculum should be our children's gateway to lifelong learning. We aim to inspire curiosity in a world beyond that which they can experience first hand. We aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills that they will need in order to succeed in a wide range of areas and the confidence to discover more as they grow into competent and ambitious adults.

In July 2023, all stakeholders at Moor End where asked to select the 4 values that they believed best reflected the school's educational purpose. The 4 most popular values were:

  • Acceptance
  • Confidence
  • Enjoyment
  • Resilience

This shows that at Moor End, we show CARE.

  • At Moor End, we use KAPOW primary and our lesson planning adopts a spiral curriculum model; this is where key knowledge and skills are revisited and built on at a level appropriate to children’s development.
  • Using a spiral curriculum in teaching does not result in children learning the same concepts over and over again. It’s about using what has already been taught to make connections between new concepts and previously learned material.
  • A spiral curriculum enables our teachers to introduce complex topics to young children in a way that is both accessible and engaging. This method builds a strong pedagogical foundation, which can be developed further as children progress through school. Our units of work are designed for teachers to use sequentially to embed learning over time.
  • These aspects are reflected in our Topics and Themes from our wider school curriculum and whenever possible the programmes of study should be taught alongside those themes.
  • We encourage flexibility to meet the wider aims of our curriculum. Our school curriculum evolves and changes to meet the needs of our children and to reflect both the school community and the community our children come from.
  • We will always meet statutory coverage, however, our themes and topics will change as our community and the community we serve also changes.

Our Curriculum Ethos
