Class novels
We value time to share and listen to high quality books and novels. The reading journey of every child at Moor End ensures that every day, in every class, there is a timetabled, quality time to share a book or novel that has been selected to enhance their reading enjoyment and to encounter a piece of work that may be above their reading age.
The class novel is one of the most joyous parts of the day. 15 minutes of reading a story to the class, bathing them in language and narrative and escapism and having them share the joy of books. Academically, it carries a lot of weight for them too – they hear good modelled reading aloud, correct pace and intonation etc, as well as being bathed in language and hearing how a reader accentuates the nuances of a story. The benefits are endless.
These are the minimum class novels or books that every child will experience and enjoy. They will be supplemented by a range of other books across each year group and as part of their reading learning during the day.
