Welcome to the class page for Year 3.

Dear Parents, Carers and Y3 pupils,

Welcome back to school. I hope you have all enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to the year ahead. We have many exciting things planned for the coming year. Our Curriculum Map can be found at the bottom of this page.

Children are encouraged to bring in their own water bottle each day and it should go home at the end of each day for washing / to be refilled.

Our PE day is a Wednesday so please send children into school in their PE kit and earrings removed.

Homework

Reading

Reading books will be coming home during our first full week back at school and we advise that all children read at least 4 times a week and record this in their reading record. Reading little and often is best. Children are encouraged to write in their own reading record (the pages they have read e.g. p4-12) but an adult must sign their record each time to acknowledge their child has been listened to. Please signal when a book has been completed. Please send books into school each day as reading is a priority - not only do we strive to listen to every child across the course of the week, we have a group of 'Seesaw Readers' each day. Please look out for a video on Seesaw.  

Read Theory  is a tailored reading resource for your child to use with questions about the text should you wish to use this outside of school and record it in the reading record. This can count as one of the '4 times a week'. Reading is reading so please record if your child has read some instructions when making / building something at home, or maybe they have been reading a recipe. It all counts! Reading their reading book, which is pitched for them, must be done though.

Spellings

Children are expected to practise their weekly spellings on Edshed and make use other spelling strategies shared at the start of the year. The spelling overview is released every half-term on Seesaw but you can also find them below.

Maths

Children should go on TTRS regularly. Evidence shows that 3 minutes a day can really improve their rapid recall of the times tables.

Other Optional (but highly recommended) Homework...

For enrichment opportunities, you will find the Homework Grids below for each half-term as the year progresses. This is optional but would really help consolidate their learning. The children can share their knowledge with you. This is a great way to find out what they have been up to in school. Tokens are given as a reward for this and we love to share their achievements in class. 

Now your child has entered Key Stage 2, there is a new Wellbeing Passport for them to complete by the end of Year 6. We strongly encourage your child to complete this and send us in some form of evidence. This could be some photographs via Seesaw or the outcome itself could be brought into school depending upon the task. An adult will then sign it off on their passport which is kept in school. We have sent a copy of this home for you to keep and refer to but it can be found below too. Have fun! 

Below, you will also find each KIRF (Key Instant Recall Facts) as the year progresses. These are released half-termly and give parents / carers an insight into previous learning your child needs to access the new learning in class. They show you the language we use in Maths and have some fun ways to help you to support your child at home. 

Below are links to Edshed, Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and Read Theory. Inside your child's reading record (on the inside cover), you will find login details for each of these. Please use the same login details for Numbots as TTRS. This is where they can practise their number bonds.

Please note: For those children without access to a tablet, phone or computer, we provide extra opportunities during the normal school day.
